Trades Union Congress

Refurbishment of Congress Centre Foyer

Project
Trades Union Congress: Refurbishment of Congress Centre Foyer

Location
London WC1

Contract Value
£200k

Architects
Hugh Broughton Architects

The main reception and foyer were completely overhauled to provide a modern registration area, cloakrooms and management offices within a Grade II listed building.

A bespoke display screen was constructed to house a 103-inch Plasma television and AV equipment. The screen was built using a stainless steel frame and fins to the top and bottom to give a floating effect.

The finish was achieved by fitting back-painted glass with colour changing LED lighting.

New reception desks were built and finished in back-painted glass with Corian worktops. They included power, data and controls which were ducted under the floor to their new positions.

Full height glazed partitioning and feature lighting were installed to create the management office suites.

New lighting was installed with a bespoke metal frame suspended from the existing ceiling incorporating daylight effect lighting and a stretch ceiling.

The entire area, approximately 900m², was carpeted and decorated with vinyl graphics applied in some areas.
